SC President's Monthly Communication: March Addendum
March 29, 2021 - Nancy Shane
With the end of the pandemic seemingly around the corner, our nation has returned to the unpleasant realities of mass shootings and deadly hate crime. I am speaking primarily of the attack against Asian-American women in Atlanta on March 16th, of course. Atlanta may be 1,400 miles away; but unfortunately attacks against Asians and Asian-Americans—never absent and far too invisible—have been on the rise in our state, too, and not entirely absent from campus. Having passed the resolution Addressing Acts of Racism at UNM just in September, the Staff Council stands with our UNM leadership in their condemnation of this horrible targeting of Asian Americans, see:
UNM resources are available to staff needing help processes these events. If you just want to help, did you know it happens to be National ‘Mom & Pop’ Business Owners’ Day? Why not spread some love and support to a local business owned by Asians or Asian-Americans? Some are featured in this video about the New Mexico Asian Business Collaborative.
