Do newborn and preemie infants benefit from books?

February 7, 2017

They sure do and so do their parents! Bonding with a fragile infant in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NBICU) is a struggle, but research suggests that reading to babies helps parents make a connection, which is an important part of finding normalcy in a difficult situation. The Staff Council HSC Staff Committee is sponsoring a donation drive for UNMH's NBICU called, "Lovin' on Little Lobos." We are collecting donations of new or gently used infant/children's board books. In addition, we are collecting donations of new newborn and preemie sized Onesies and "Halo Sacks." The Donation Drive runs through Monday, 2/13/17.
